Wow, the end of August is here! The roses are fading but my sunflowers are glorious. Here is a photo I took and made into a poster for Bebop's Place. This poster will bring brightness and cheer to your wall! Three brilliantly colored sunflowers are illuminated by the sunlight streaming through the petals. The flowers display a gorgeous palette of gold, yellow, orange, red and brown. Green leaves and blue sky complete this composition of color and form.

The heat has returned. I got out early and watered some little lettuce seedlings and all the dahlias. They are finally beginning to bloom, quite a bit later than usual. I still have hopes that they will be spectacular.

Late summer seems to be a special time for the little garden creatures. I've been enjoying them so much! Here is a calendar I created for Bebop's Place in celebration of my little friends.

It's early morning, the sun is just peaking through the trees and lots of blue jays are squawking out my window which brings to mind this poster I created for Bebop's Place. It features a blue jay who has landed on a porch deck surrounded by flowers. The blue, gray, white and black coloration of the bird is set off by a riot of color. There is a decorative teapot with orange and yellow nasturtiums and a purple petunia. Green leaves complete this kaleidoscope of colors.

Here is another bookmark I created for Bebop's Place. Leda is an antique Damask rose growing in my garden. She dates from the early 1800's. The petals are many and vary in color from blossom to blossom. Creamy pink and often tinged with darker pink, she is also called the Autumn Damask or Painted Damask. This bookmark features her blushing pink scented blossoms floating on a rainbow background.
I really love the subtle hint of blue on this black and white rose photograph. This positively gorgeous poster is available from Rdwnggrl's World.

One more cool, drizzly, cloudy day and then we are supposed to get our sunny summer back. I picked yet more beans and got them in the freezer.
This guy is definitely not a rose but I wanted to share him. It's a design I was working on for Bebop's Place last night. This brilliantly colored poster features a shiny green, yellow and black grasshopper perched on the purple center of a flower with gorgeous red petals.
Okay, now for some roses...

The heavy rain and winds are finally over but some damage was done to the garden. We spent a lot of yesterday fortifying tomatoes, corn, sunflowers, zinnias and nicotiana that had been knocked down. I hope the roots weren't too disturbed.

I'm continuing to create bookmarks for Bebop's Place. This bookmark features my colorful summer flower garden filled with flowers in every brilliant color of the rainbow. Red, orange, pink and yellow dahlias combine with purple ageratum, multi colored nicotiana and red zinnias. Green foliage complete this riot of color. A scarecrow surveys the scene. The reverse has a quote from Cicero, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need."
And now to roses...

It's raining cats and dogs right now. Good for finally baking that blueberry pie with my latest picking and watching the garden grow out the window. It makes me think of this card I made for Bebop's Place from a photo I took last summer during a rain storm. I was staring out the window at my garden with all the flowers drinking in that water and just had to grab my camera.

Yesterday I began creating bookmarks for Bebop's Place. I am adapting some of my old images and also adding new ones. Naturally, lots of roses will be featured. This cheerful bookmark is decorated with the lovely blossoms of an old-fashioned golden yellow rose set against a sunny lemon yellow background. The image is repeated on the reverse side.

Recently I was pleasantly surprised when I sold my first tie. To celebrate, I'm posting this tie I made for Bebop's Place which features a repeating journey into the heart of a brilliant single petaled red rose. Her golden yellow stamens and velvety petals form a wonderful abstract pattern.

Yesterday I watched a tiny Red Eft making his way along a woodland path. It reminded me of this sticker I made for Bebop's Place from a photo I took last summer. The Red Eft is the terrestrial juvenile stage of the Eastern Newt. This curious orange fellow with red spots has just emerged from the pond to spend two or three years on land before heading back to the water as a full grown salamander.

I have already been out picking green beans and cucumbers. Later, I think I'll go into the woods and look for mushrooms.
Yesterday I mentioned that all my rugosas are blooming in the garden. I took this picture of Pink Grootendorst and made her into a poster for Bebop's Place. I love the way the soft pink petals blend into the green and yellow pastel tones of the leafy background. She is a repeat bloomer, gracing our garden with her beauty all summer long. I have digitally enhanced my original photograph to create a watercolor effect.

It's a rainy Sunday in the middle of the month. Is housework on the horizon for me? Sigh.
The rugosa roses are just about the perfect rose to grow. They are tough, hardy, fragrant and repeat their blooms. Right now I have five rugosas blooming: F.J.Grootendorst, Pink Grootendorst, Sir Thomas Lipton, the standard old rugosa you see at the beach, and this beauty, Conrad Meyer, which I made into a pin for Bebop's Place.
