When the suitor left the girl's house deliberately left his Fancy Mantle. Next day if it was in the house, he was welcomed back as a suitor, but if he found it hanging on the porch, he was rejected - "His mantle is exposed" (Hungarian saying) - and did not welcome anymore as a suitor.

It is so called because the flower resembles lace; the red flower in the center represents a blood droplet where Queen Anne pricked herself with a needle when she was making the lace.
