The heat has returned. I got out early and watered some little lettuce seedlings and all the dahlias. They are finally beginning to bloom, quite a bit later than usual. I still have hopes that they will be spectacular.

Late summer seems to be a special time for the little garden creatures. I've been enjoying them so much! Here is a calendar I created for Bebop's Place in celebration of my little friends.

The apples are ripening on the trees. Soon there will be enough to begin pressing cider. I think I'll make an apple pie today!

It's early morning, the sun is just peaking through the trees and lots of blue jays are squawking out my window which brings to mind this poster I created for Bebop's Place. It features a blue jay who has landed on a porch deck surrounded by flowers. The blue, gray, white and black coloration of the bird is set off by a riot of color. There is a decorative teapot with orange and yellow nasturtiums and a purple petunia. Green leaves complete this kaleidoscope of colors.

Here is another bookmark I created for Bebop's Place. Leda is an antique Damask rose growing in my garden. She dates from the early 1800's. The petals are many and vary in color from blossom to blossom. Creamy pink and often tinged with darker pink, she is also called the Autumn Damask or Painted Damask. This bookmark features her blushing pink scented blossoms floating on a rainbow background.
I really love the subtle hint of blue on this black and white rose photograph. This positively gorgeous poster is available from Rdwnggrl's World.
This Rosy Bower bordered print is adapted from jan4insight's photo of the Albuquerque, NM, Rose Garden at season's peak. This is a place I would love to visit!

One more cool, drizzly, cloudy day and then we are supposed to get our sunny summer back. I picked yet more beans and got them in the freezer.
This guy is definitely not a rose but I wanted to share him. It's a design I was working on for Bebop's Place last night. This brilliantly colored poster features a shiny green, yellow and black grasshopper perched on the purple center of a flower with gorgeous red petals.
Okay, now for some roses...
Here's a spaghetti strap t-shirt available from Designs by Kelly W. Patterson, featuring a print of an original painting by Kelly W. Patterson, entitled "TJ's Rose." The painting depicts a single red rose, signifying loyalty, passion, and undying love, inside a clear glass vase with a blue background, rendered in a impressionistic impasto style using a palette knife. The heavy rain and winds are finally over but some damage was done to the garden. We spent a lot of yesterday fortifying tomatoes, corn, sunflowers, zinnias and nicotiana that had been knocked down. I hope the roots weren't too disturbed.
