Welcome to Bebop's Place

Old fashioned Roses print

Beauty has been defined as "The quality that gives pleasure to the mind or senses and is associated with such properties as harmony of form or color, excellence of artistry, truthfulness, and originality." Since our responses are totally subjective, I can only speak to what moves me.

I want to share the beauty! I have created a variety of floral products for my Zazzle stores, Bebop's Place and Bebop's Weddings, using my original photographs and designs. I am also constantly amazed at the gorgeous floral products available from the rest of the Zazzle community. I am hoping others will enjoy this blog and even be moved to purchase some of these lovely items for gifts or just for the pleasure of having such beauty around.

Cattails in the foreground are silhouetted by lovely shimmering water which is reflecting the pink, yellow, salmon, orange and gold of the evening sky. This lovely poster available at Bebop's Place features a young woman sitting and dreaming on the dock at the edge of a large pond. Autumn is in the air. The water is surrounded with trees in gorgeous fall foliage colors of yellow, green, red, orange and gold. The blue sky has fluffy white clouds and all this is reflected in the water. The trunk of a large pine tree defines the left side. The brilliant sunshine is reflected in her red hair.

I created this calendar for Bebop's Place from photos of the lovely little creatures I see all summer. My garden is a world of light, color and movement. The flowers and vegetables shine with beauty...and the little creatures amaze me in their infinite variations of shape, form and action. I have tried to capture these lovely little beings with my photography and have compiled the best for this 2011 calendar. I hope you will join me in the marvelous land of the giant swallowtail, hoverfly, tiger swallowtail, damselfly, cranefly, least skipper butterfly, grasshopper, Aphrodite fritillary butterfly, polyphemus moth, honeybee, ruby meadowhawk dragonfly and bush katydid nymph.

Here is a lovely poster by sfcount. She says, "Digitally altered from my original painting of a cherry blossom branch, I've converted the image to shades of gray with just a touch of pink on the blooms. To the print, I've added a poem I wrote".

This Apache Blessing poster by The Shy Muse really moved me. Both design and words are lovely. Our interconnectedness with the beauty of Mother Nature is beautifully acknowledged in encouraging and caring words. Appropriate for many occasions--weddings, retirement, graduations, moving, anniversaries...any kind of turning point in life that garners well wishes.

I live at the edge of a small pond and spend lots of time in all seasons seeking its beauty. I compiled this calendar for Bebop's Place with some of my favorite photos of the pond.

Enjoy the many facets and moods of a pond in upstate New York. This 2011 calendar will take you through the seasons of the year with landscapes and details of the pond's flora and fauna. Photographic styles range from realism to abstraction.

I saw this exquisite poster yesterday in Pariseau's Market and just fell in love with it! Frost crystals are growing along the edge of Boston Ivy leaves on a cold November morning.

Thursday - September 30, 2010

It's the last day of September today and raining cats and dogs. There is a flash flood watch in effect till late tonight. So I am staying inside making tomato sauce. I have a huge pot cooking on the stove.

I was out in the rain, which has its own beauty, and saw that even more dahlias are opening which brought to mind this binder I made for Bebop's Place. Customize the text on this brilliantly colored binder to suit your needs (or delete the text for a simple black spine). A profusion of dahlias spill across the front and back in shades of gold, yellow, red, pink, blush, cream and white. Petals seem to glow in the sunshine.

It is sunny and pleasantly warm today. My dahlias are finally looking good (after being stressed by the unusually hot, dry summer) and frost warnings are up for Sunday night! I took this photo of a bouquet of 5 different dahlias. I think it came out nicely as a dramatic pattern in autumn colors of deep red, orange and gold on a black background arranged to create an almost abstract design. The poster is available from Bebops.

The autumn foliage is really taking over as the chief eye-catcher around here. This is not a flower photo but it was taken just outside my garden. I spotted this tiny bird and put him on a poster for Bebop's Place. I added a filter to soften the lines.

This poster features a lovely little goldfinch perched on a branch, surrounded by brilliant autumn foliage. He is as small as the leaves of the ash tree and actually blends in to form an abstract composition of red, orange, green, yellow, black and white.

Now to some flowers...

Splash some summer fun into someone's day with this bright butterfly flower card by Scruff Shop! Created from an original hand drawn illustration, the design features a funky flower surrounded by happy hearts and butterflies, in vibrant tones of pink, orange, sunshine yellow and baby blue.

Here is an exquisite note card by Octopus Love with yellow flowers on a brugmansia tree. Brugmansia are trees also known as Angel's Trumpets, because of the large trumpet-shaped flowers which can grow up to 20 inches long. These flowers come in a variety of colors, including white, yellow, pink, orange and red. They have a delicate scent with lemon overtones, which is quite striking in the early evening. Although beautiful, Brugmansia plants contain poison, which can be fatal if ingested.

One of my all time favorite flowers is the tiny Johnny Jump Up (Viola tricolor). Also known as Heartsease, he's a common European wild flower which grows as both an annual and a short-lived perennial. He has been introduced into North America and has spread widely, including all over my garden! He pops up in just about every bed of flowers and vegetables. I weed where I don't want him but am sure to leave plenty to enjoy, since the blooms begin in early spring and continue till late fall.

I've celebrated Johnny on many products in Bebop's Place. Here is a thank you card featuring this little guy.

And here's a Johnny mug...

Another flower I just love because it is beautiful and spreads like a weed in my garden is the calendula. B K Muir has created this lovely t-shirt which sports a labeled orange flower with dewdrops.

This a perfectly gorgeous postage stamp by Garden And Gifts. It features bright red geraniums which can be used as an R S V P for wedding invitations or just to spread some beauty and cheer!

The resilience of my flower garden continues to amaze me. Here it is almost October, and they are still putting on a gorgeous show.

The cosmos seem to have gotten a second wind. I took this photo yesterday and made this poster for Bebop's Place featuring a cosmos flower reaching for the sky. The delicate pink and white petals are set against a background of blue sky and fluffy white clouds.

This handsome tie by Botanical Art features a beautiful botanical illustration of the carnivorous plant Darlingtonia californica. Also called the California Pitcher Plant, Cobra Plant, or Cobra Lily, it is native to southwestern Oregon and northern California, growing in bogs and seeps with cold running water. The common name Cobra Plant comes from how its tubular leaves resemble a rearing cobra. Makes a great gift for a botanist, gardener, landscaper or anyone who loves plants and nature. You can change the background color, if you’d like.

This beautiful customizable wedding album created by Fallen_Angel_483 features a beautifully detailed photograph of an African daisy flower. The photo has been digitally altered, resulting in a pretty purple coloured flower with different shades of purple on the petals and a dark purple centre. The pretty purple text on the top right corner of the album is customizable so you can enter the names of the happy couple and the date of their marriage. This would make a wonderful wedding gift.

Although we had a few hot days, it has cooled down again and it is really beginning to look like autumn here. The foliage is starting to show some autumn colors. Meanwhile, the zinnias remain the stars of the garden.

This thank you card by Bebops features a female ruby-throated hummingbird. She hovers in the air while drinking nectar from the golden center of a bright red zinnia flower. A yellow zinnia blossom is nearby and a few green leaves complete the composition. The colors seem to glow against the dark background. The image is repeated inside. The text can be customized to suit your needs.

It's the last day of summer. It seems to have gone by too fast. I am posting this thank you card I made for Bebop's Place. For me, it captures the essence of summer. It features a garden full of light, shadow and color. Orange and gold daylilies are set off by pale lilac and dark magenta phlox. Many shades of green frame the lovely colors.

It is sunny and clear but quite cool here. There was scattered frost in the valleys though our hilltop was spared. We will have to start bringing in our house plants today.

Meanwhile the flowers are still blooming. I took this photo last week and made a poster for Bebop's Place as a celebration of a sunny summer day in layers of color. Yellow marigolds are lowest, then come red and pink zinnias, and over them all is a brilliant blue sky with one fluffy cloud. Tiny apples hang from a tree in the distance.
